Mahabharata  and Ramayana are famous ancient Indian epics originally written in Sanskrit but now translated to many languages.

About Mahabharata :

It is a story of Lord Krishna Avatar. Famous Indian director Mr. B. R. Chopra made TV serial ( about 94 episodes each of 45 mins approx) on Mahabharata Epic.It is advisable to read some basics about Bhagvad Geeta and  Mahabharata before you start watching the each episode. Bhagvad Geeta was told by Lord Krishna to  Great  warrior Arjuna during Mahabharata era.

About Ramayana :

Ramayana is also an ancient Indian epic originally written in Sanskrit. It is based on life of Lord Rama  Avatar. Based on Ramayana epic ,director Chetan Desai made an animation movie ” Ramayana-The Epic” ; which was quite popular.
